The High Five Charity Auction will be a live auction event held at Desaki Restaurant on Rt 611 in Swiftwater and offer the opportunity to bid on commercial real estate, travel, entertainment and other products or services. Three of the properties to be on the block are Memorytown Resort in Paradise Township, Schreck’s Market in Stroud Township, the former Carlton House at 8th and Main Streets in Stroudsburg and an 8-unit apartment in Brodheadsville. Other items include a South African Photo Safari and an autographed New York Giants football. All real estate sold will be donating a minimum of $5,000 with potential for up to 30% or more of the winning bid. The seller and buyer will be able to select the receiving organization for their portion of the donation. All other items sold will benefit the sponsoring charity directly.

Michael J. Baxter, Broker/Owner of Michael Baxter & Associates Commercial Real Estate said, “Our firm has always been fully committed to serving our clients as well as the community. I feel that the High Five Charity Auction is an excellent and innovative approach to accomplishing both at the same time. We are looking forward to making this event a huge success for all involved.”

All of the participating charities are pleased to be involved with this new fund and awareness raising event and had this to say;

Jim Rienhardt, Executive Director of American Red Cross of the Poconos states that “The American Red Cross of the Poconos is honored to be a partner of the High Five Charity Auction. All contributions given to the Red Cross from this auction will be used for our Disaster Services to help those residents who have experienced an unfortunate personal, natural or physical tragedy.”

“The High Five Charity Auction promises to be a unique community fundraising event and Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to participate. All donations to MC Habitat will support our efforts to provide affordable housing solutions to low income residents of Monroe County.” According to Nancy Ceglia, Board President of Monroe County Habitat for Humanity.

Executive Director, Tim Lee explains, Pocono Services for Families and Children works to provide resources to meet the needs of community children and families in support of efforts to achieve their goals. In Monroe County, there are over 5000 children under the age of 5 who live in economically distressed households. Funds raised through the High Five Charity Auction will assist us in reaching more of these families and children with high quality services and pre-Kindergarten classroom experiences necessary for a child’s success in school and life.

Major James Gingrich, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army in Monroe County shared, “We are blessed to join with other non-profit agencies to be a part of the High Five Charity Auction sponsored by Michael Baxter & Associates Commercial Real Estate. The contributions received from this great event will enable us to continue to offer Shelter to the homeless and feed the hungry of our community.”

“Money raised will benefit the United Way of Monroe County and our efforts to continue ‘Uniting People and Improving Lives’ in our community,” said Executive Director Mathilda Sheptak. “Information on the 33 programs delivered by our 22 health and human service partner agencies will be provided, as well as information on our countywide volunteer website.”

National Cash Register 452

On April 17th we have an incredible cash register up for auction. It is also fabulous that it comes with its base. This particular machine was made 11/15/1910. The model number tells us what kind of machine it is.

This is a class 400 (4) machine and is a total adding machine. It is operated by pressing in the registering keys and turning the handle. The Class 400 comes in 6 sizes with 6 kinds of printer arrangements.

The number (5) indicates that there are 5 rows of keys and the (2) indicates:Total adder, detail strip and check printer; five rows of keys.

The base has 6 cash drawers and three supplies drawers and one forward drop storage drawer at the base. The sides have raised panels, the back with pull handle cabinet door; the oak feet with applied cast metal mounts. Dimensions: 45"H x 28.75"W x 21.25"D.

Antique Writing Desks

On March 20th we have a couple of very nice writing desks coming up for auction in our Antique Auction. The first recording of a writing desk was back in 1450, the ‘Deske’. The writing desk has evolved much since the 15th century

The desk below, to be auctioned off 3/20, is a later version of the English style slope top ‘Clerk’s Desk’. This piece has brass rail on the top.

The next writing desk that we will be auctioning off on 3/20 is also a slope top style desk. This desk is also made out of oak but is unusual in that it is in Mission style. Very uncommon to find a slope top desk in Mission style.

Currently we don’t have any coming up for auction but Spinet desks are a favorite among folks with small spaces. The original Spinet desk gets its name from the musical instrument. When the instrument was no longer usable the inner workings were removed and the shell was made into a desk. Below is a Spinet desk from one of our past auctions.

Baby Grand- More than just an instrument

This week we have a beautiful baby grand piano for sale. If you like to tickle the keys you will take this wonderful baby home and have it tuned. Maybe you just like having a piano sitting around for the holidays so a family member can play tunes and everyone can gather around and sing.

But if you don’t play and have no interest in hearing the glorious sound of a grand piano in your home think about repurposing this fabulous looking piano into a desk. Being that it is a baby grand you don’t need a large room for it. The picture below is an example of a desk piano in a traditional room but it would do just as well in another setting.

Industrial Carts and Vintage Hats- Creative Ideas

Website Highlights 2/19

Industrial Carts

Do a Google Search for Industrial Carts

Over the last few weeks some of you may have noticed the industrial carts that have been sold at Teel Auctions. Country Living magazine has an article in their March issue mentioning factory carts and the current trend in decorating and the use of the carts. They make unique coffee tables. Some will need to retrofitted. CL magazine says to expect to pay between $400-$1600 for each. We offer you quite the deal!!

The carts usually date from 1930s and earlier.

Vintage Hats
